A tractor-trailer driver is dead after his truck left Highway 102, between the Lacewood Drive and Kearney Lake Road exits, and struck the ditch at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Halifax police say the man, 57, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was unconscious when they arrived. He died later in hospital.

About two hours after that crash, police responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a police motorcycle just before the Lacewood Drive exit off the 102 outbound. The police officer, who was providing traffic control after the tractor-trailer crash, narrowly escaped injury by jumping into the median when the truck hit his motorbike. The pickup truck's driver was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
