Neils Harbour man faces five counts of break and enter

Charges stem from an Ingonish District RCMP investigation into five break-ins last month

A Neils Harbour man is facing several charges following an Ingonish District RCMP investigation in a rash of break-ins that happened in December.

Brandon Thomas Briand, 23, has been charged with five counts of break and enter, possession of a break-in instrument and two counts of breach of conditions.

The investigation began on Dec. 17 when the RCMP were called to five separate break-ins in Neils Harbour, the RCMP said Wednesday in a news release. All of the break-ins were carried out on the same day and in each case a window was smashed from the outside and the residence entered.

The investigation led to a home in Neils Harbour, which police searched on Monday. They also seized evidence and made an arrest, the release said.

Two 16-year-old boys were also arrested in connection with the break-ins, but were later released.

Briand made an appearance in Sydney provincial court on Tuesday, the release said. He was remanded until his next court date, which is Thursday.
