Police have charged two men following an investigation into two home invasions that hit the same Halifax residence overnight Tuesday.

Alexander Balfe, 19, of Chester has been charged with one count each of home invasion, robbery, break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and property damage, as well as two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Michael Gibbons, 22, of Halifax has been charged with one count each of home invasion, robbery, break and enter and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Halifax Regional Police were initially called to a home in the 5000 block of Harvey Street at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, when it was reported that multiple persons had forced their way inside and stolen some items.

Police had completed their preliminary investigation, including forensic work, and were working offsite when they received a call at about 1 a.m. Wednesday that informed them the suspects had once again forced their way into the home.

Officers apprehended two suspects, including one who had attempted to flee after jumping from a second-storey window.
