Some of the top sledge hockey players in the Maritimes competed in Bedford this weekend.
The P.E.I. Ice Breakers defeated the Cape Breton Sledgehammers 7-1 in Sunday's gold medal game of the first-ever East Coast Sledge Hockey Challenge.
Two teams from Halifax -- the Sledge Grinders and the Sledge Mariners -- also participated in the tournament.
Sledge hockey is played by para-athletes on sledges composed of two skate blades on a metal frame that allows the puck to pass underneath.
