A warrant has been issued for a witness who failed to show up at a murder trial in Halifax.
Homicide investigators with Halifax Regional Police issued the Canada-wide warrant for Walter Madeaus Brooks, who's originally from Halifax but is believed to be living in Orangeville, Ont.
Brooks is a witness in the case against Demarques Shane Beals, who faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Keya Knita Simon. The homicide trial began in Halifax on Monday, police said in a news release Friday.
The warrant was issued May 12 when Brooks failed to make arrangements with police or the Crown to attend court.
Simon, 19, was found stabbed to death on Jan. 8, 2011, inside the front doors of an apartment building at 117 Pinecrest Dr. in Dartmouth. Her 32-year-old sister had also been stabbed. Beals was charged with killing Simon in August 2014.
Police ask anyone with information on Brooks’ whereabouts to call 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers.
