Wentworth man awaits September sentencing on bigamy, fraud charges

Jason Keith Giddens, 43, pleaded guilty in Truro provincial court to committing nine offences, including uttering a forged document.

A Cumberland County man has admitted he’s a bigamist and a fraudster.

Jason Keith Giddens, 43, of Wentworth pleaded guilty recently in Truro provincial court to one charge of bigamy, seven counts of fraud and one of uttering a forged document.

Giddens was still legally married to another woman when he and Danielle Pinkney of Truro were wed at a ceremony in York, Maine, in August 2012.

The bigamy came to light after Giddens was reported missing in December 2015.

Truro police then began receiving complaints from people who claimed they had been defrauded by Giddens.

The fraud victims include Pinkney’s mother, Colleen, who is a championship curler, two of her teammates and the best man at the 2012 wedding. One of the frauds involved more than $5,000.

Giddens will be sentenced in September. The victims are entitled to submit impact statements to the court.

Giddens, who was charged last April, remains free on an undertaking with several conditions. He can’t communicate with the complainants or possess any firearms.
