Chris Kelades is back in business in mixed martial arts.
The four-time UFC combatant from Cole Harbour, with just two weeks to prepare, defeated Tyler Shinn by unanimous decision on Friday night at a Legacy Fighting Alliance card in Shawnee, Okla. He won 29-28 on two scorecards and 30-27 on the third.
It was the first action for the 36-year-old Kelades since the UFC didn't offer him a new contract after a loss to Sergio Pettis last April. He's spent the past 15 months looking for a way back in the game.
Kelades took to social media to report the news.
"We got the Win in Shawnee Oklahoma!. It wasn't as pretty as I intended but in my true fashion we put he pressure on."
Kelades is 10-3 in his MMA, including 2-2 in his time in the UFC. Shinn, a former NCAA wrestler at Oklahoma State, is 8-4.
The two fought at 130 pounds, above the 125-pound flyweight limit. Kelades didn't want to cut that much weight on short notice.
He is scheduled to fight again next month in Medicine Hat, Alta., against Keegan Oliver. He was due to fight the Albertan in Halifax last month before the card was cancelled.
