Kentville's Brette Pettet is on her way to the playoff round at the world under-18 women's hockey championship in the Czech Republic.
Ashton Bell had the only goal in overtime as Canada beat the U.S. 1-0 on Tuesday for a 3-0 mark in the preliminary round. Danika Ranger made 23 saves in goal for the shutout.
It marked the first win for the Canadians against their rivals in the last five tries.
Canada will play in the semifinals on Friday. Their opponent will be determined in Thursday's quarter-finals.
Pettet, a forward who attends Shattuck-St. Mary's, had goals in Canada's first two wins over Sweden and Russia.
